Gas Leak Detector & Combustion Analyzer

These are two distinct but related categories of instruments used by burner technicians for safety and tuning.

Gas Leak Detector (Safety)

A handheld device used to detect combustible gases (Methane, Propane) leaking from pipe joints, valves, or regulators.

  • Technology: Catalytic bead or semiconductor sensors.
  • Use Case: Verified during commissioning and annual maintenance to ensure the "Gas Train" is tight.

Combustion Analyzer (Performance)

A sophisticated instrument that samples the exhaust gas (flue gas) from the stack.

  • Measures:
    • O2 (Oxygen): To ensure excess air is correct (typically 3-5% for gas).
    • CO (Carbon Monoxide): To verify complete combustion (safety limit usually < 50-100 ppm).
    • NOx (Nitrogen Oxides): To ensure environmental compliance.
    • Efficiency: Calculates thermal efficiency based on temperature and gas composition.
